This was a cool little project--this client's basement stairs were not blocked off at all because of how his home was originally built. The client had a family member in a wheelchair plus several nieces and nephews who would visit, and he was afraid someone was going to fall down the stairs. His temporary solution was a baby gate which did not look good and was not very sturdy.
We worked with the client to design a custom gate to prevent unexpected trips down the stairs. Originally a basic design was planned, but then we realized that the client was a giant University of Michigan fan and proposed a custom twist of the "Block M" centered in the gate. Robert custom-designed and built the gate as well as worked to stain it to match the original woodwork of the house. We loved how this solution turned out! Much better than a baby gate.
